Joe King is finishing up on air at Ultra106.5fm on August 19th, after four fantastic and event-filled years on Brekkie radio.

Joe, what comes to mind when you think about the past four years? Highlights? Lowlights? What will you miss the most?…

(Joe) Ultra – how I love thee – let me count the ways…

Well, I’d have to say it’s been a blast. We’ve met some cool people, some almost-cool celebrities and had a whole lotta laughs. What’s not to like about going out for a latte every morning with a good mate, having a few giggles, and occasionally recording it?

From an Event Management perspective, I guess some big-achievement highlights include the School Excursion project and the Big Red Car balloon structure. What a rush!

ultra106.5fm is proudly supported by:

My fave on-air joke – “when I heard that Oxygen and Magnesium were hooking up, I was like OMg”

Some of my best memories:

The chopper pilot putting the feet (skids) through the footie goal posts in a school as he took off. Mad skills. The School Principal was seriously impressed.

Special thanks to:

My wife, Anna, and 3 kids – Wez, Huddo, and Hat. You guys have been super-patient. The super-early mornings, and by extension, the super-early nights! I look forward to a season where Daddy might have a little more energy at dinner time.

What I’ll miss:

The listeners. You crazy, slightly nutty, but yet totally loveable souls. Thanks for tuning in (and turning up) over the last 4 years. It’s sure been fun!

Wiggo’s hand moisturizer. That stuff smells amazing!

What I won’t miss:

Getting up super early. By nature I’m not at my peak in the mornings, so that’s been a challenge!!

Pretending to find Scottie’s sick jokes funny. I can’t live that lie any longer. It’s over.

What’s next?

God willing, I’ll still be involved in Ultra’s activities, and I’ll certainly continue to be an enthusiastic supporter! My little catering business has grown faster than anticipated, so it is timely that I invest more time and energy into that.

Joe, on behalf of all of us who have tuned in over a cup of coffee and a bowl of weetbix, or laughed out loud in the car on the way to work, or spent an extra ten minutes in bed listening to a story you’re telling, we appreciate you so much! Thanks for the sacrifices you (and your family) have made to entertain and inspire us, and we wish you all the very best.
