Planet Ark has welcomed the decision by the Tasmanian Government to adopt the first state-wide Wood Encouragement Policy (WEP) in Australia.
David Rowlinson, the Make It Wood Campaign Manager chats with Dave who finds out the use of sustainably sourced wood in building projects as it is the only major building material that tackles climate change.
Timber is a renewable resource that stores carbon, and its use leads to lower carbon emissions in the production and construction phases of building projects.
Planet Arks 2017 research report Wood – Nature Inspired Design also found that exposure to timber, wooden furnishings and fittings can lead to physical and mental health benefits.
Our Make It Wood campaign, along with our partner Forest and Wood Products Australia, has previously encouraged 12 local councils and 2 local government areas to adopt similar WEPs. We hope that other councils and states will consider adopting their own WEPs.
